CETAF in talks with EC to become an ERA stakeholder

The European Research Area (ERA) is the European Commission’s answer to Europe’s competitive need of a unified research area. An open space for knowledge, research and innovation. It is expected to enable researchers, research institutions and businesses to work and co-operate freely across borders.

The EC has so far gathered a large group of stakeholders that will contribute to achieve this new ERA. But it also needs to expand its stakeholders platform to more organisations representative at EU level. After meeting with EC Commissioner Moedas, CETAF has decided to pursue a place within the ERA stakeholders platform to bring the voice of taxonomy to this very important initiative.

An official request was sent to the Directorate General for Research & Innovation, with the direct support of Commissioner Moedas. Michelle Price, Chair of Cetaf, writes: “The possible opening up of the ERA stakeholders group to include the natural sciences community, as represented by CETAF, is of great interest to us and we are keen to take the opportunity to collaborate with the parties involved in this important process: one that is key for science and scientific innovation within and across Europe.

European Commissioners Günther H. Oettinger and Carlos Moedas have published a joint blog post on the occasion of the “Opening up to an ERA of Innovation” conference: https://ec.europa.eu/commission/2014-2019/oettinger/blog/open-science-knowledge-and-data-driven-economy_en
