A new open-access article published in BioScience explores the role of the Global Genome Biodiversity Network (GGBN) in connecting biodiversity biobanks, collections and researchers around the world.
The paper, Connecting biodiversity biobanks in the global infrastructure landscape, explains how GGBN supports the standardisation and exchange of good practices and provides access to information about genomic resources held in repositories worldwide. Through its data portal, the network helps researchers find physical biological materials together with their associated data.
The article also presents examples of collaboration between GGBN and other biodiversity networks, programmes and research infrastructures. These connections are important for improving access to biological collections, strengthening the global biobanking community and supporting research in areas including taxonomy, genomics and biodiversity conservation.
CETAF contributed to the publication through co-authors Ana Casino, CETAF Executive Director, and Laura Tilley, CETAF Projects Coordinator. The paper also highlights CETAF’s role in connecting collections-based research institutions and supporting reliable standards, protocols and innovative tools for taxonomy.
