CETAF at ERC annual conference: Frontier research for One Health

CETAF attended the ERC Annual Conference: Frontier research for One Health, which brought together scientists, policymakers and stakeholders to explore how ERC-funded frontier research is addressing interconnected global health challenges.

The conference highlighted the One Health approach, recognising the interdependence of human, animal and environmental health, and the need for interdisciplinary research to respond to challenges such as climate-driven health risks, biodiversity loss, pandemics and antimicrobial resistance.

In this broader context, CETAF reiterates three key ideas that are central to its work:

  • Experience and lessons learned from the CETAF–DiSSCo COVID-19 Task Force, demonstrating how taxonomic expertise and natural history collections can be mobilised in response to public health challenges.
  • The emerging role of natural history museums and collections-based institutions as contributors to solutions for public health and wider societal challenges.
  • Access to knowledge and data derived from natural history collections as a source of baseline information and contextual evidence relevant to One Health research and evidence-based policy.
