Collection Abstract

The Paul Sabatier University (UPS) of Toulouse possesses 70 herbaria of various sizes and origins, which add up to about 400,000 sheets. These herbaria were composed between the 19h and 20th centuries, the oldest dating back to 1811, and the most recent from 2010.

Collection Description

The collection is organized in several parts. Petrography and mineralogy. In this category we find the Picot de Lapeyrouse collection, and the historical collection. It is divided into two parts, the large mining localities and by type of minerals.

Collection Abstract

The Paul Sabatier University (UPS) of Toulouse possesses 40 000 mineral samples of various sizes and origins. The oldest part of the collection was formed by Picot de Lapeyrouse between 1773 and 1818. In the middle of the 19th centurie, all mineral were organized 3 parts : the general collection, the Pyrenean collection and a the study collection. Minerals are added to collections through purchases, donations and field collections. Among the great mineralogist of the collection, we have Picot de Lapeyrouse, Alexandre Laymerie, François Fontan, Pierre Monchou...

Collection Description

The Paul Sabatier University (UPS) of Toulouse possesses 400 000 pieces of various sizes and origins. The oldest part of the collection was formed by Picot de Lapeyrouse between 1773 and 1818. The collections were enriched by purchases, exchanges and donations from students, scientists, professors and amateurs. The collection is divided into two main groups. The Pyrenean collection and the general collection. The regional part is the result of research carried out from the twentieth century on the mountainous massifs of the Pyrenees by scientists and other students, Amateur researchers etc. The university’s Pyrenean collection is a unique collection and a reference for the region. The general part of the collection was assembled to serve as a support for the teachings. It illustrates the variety of life forms present on earth in a coherent and orderly chronological order. The collection has more than 800 types and figures
