The CETAF Legislations and Regulations Working Group is organising the workshop “Access and Benefit Sharing in 2026: Where we are – and where new agreements might take us”, which will take place 21–22 April 2026 at LIB Museum Koenig, University of Bonn (Germany).
The workshop will focus on the practical implementation of the EU ABS Regulation for non-commercial research and collection-holding institutions. Ten years after the ratification of the Nagoya Protocol, the event will provide an opportunity to review a decade of experience and discuss upcoming developments affecting biodiversity research and collections.
Participants will explore key topics including the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Nagoya Protocol, the EU ABS Regulation, and the CETAF Code of Conduct, as well as emerging issues such as Digital Sequence Information (DSI) and the implications of the High Seas Treaty on Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ).
The workshop will bring together experts from CETAF institutions, DNFS, universities and national ministries to exchange practical insights, discuss lessons learned and explore future regulatory challenges.
