As negotiations on the EU’s next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) progress, CETAF calls for biodiversity to remain a clearly defined strategic priority within the new Global Europe Instrument (GEI).
While welcoming the proposed climate and environment spending benchmark, CETAF expresses concern over the absence of explicit biodiversity targets in the core GEI Regulation. Maintaining legally anchored and measurable biodiversity commitments will be essential to ensure policy coherence, predictability for partner countries and the EU’s continued global leadership in tackling the biodiversity crisis.
