Scientific research community in action: the COVID-19 Task Force is a joint action undertaken by the DiSSCo and CETAF communities to foster transdisciplinary research with natural history collections at its heart.
The COVID-19 TaF started meeting weekly and later on biweekly that has started in April 2020. It reported on its achievements after the three first months of collaboration during an online public event on 17 July 2020 and was published for the first time in January 2021. The Taskforce works to identify the areas and topics to which our community can most effectively contribute; as well as to anticipate and prevent the occurrence and propagation of future health crises.
The joint work deployed had been unfolded in 4 focus areas:
1) animal virus carriers;
2) construction of a knowledge base relevant for pandemics;
3) preservation of viral evidence;
4) metadata registering practices.
A communication campaign called “Covid=19 TaF experiences” has been conducted in parallel with the experts meetings to support the outreach of this unique initiative endorsed by DiSSCo and CETAF communities.
