The Belgian node of DiSSCo organised a networking event at the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences on Friday, 20th December 2024 from 12:30 to 17:00.
Be.DiSSCo-FED Networking Event will unite members of the Belgian scientific community to explore and strengthen Belgium’s role in the Distributed System of Scientific Collections – Research Infrastructure (DiSSCo-RI). Attendees can look forward to engaging in discussions, practical demonstrations, and valuable networking opportunities. The program details are here. With the double role of associated partners of the Be.DiSSCo-FED and members of the DiSSCo CSO, CETAF will prepare a panel about the CETAF Regristry.

Context
Be.DiSSCo-FED represents Belgium’s federal contribution to the development of a robust national presence within the pan-European DiSSCo research infrastructure. It connects all current Belgian partners of DiSSCo, either directly or indirectly, with a focus on three key areas:
- Governance: Establishing a federation of institutions and their collections as a DiSSCo National Node.
- Services: Developing and utilising tools like the Specialization Tool and Collection Registry to identify and enhance the value of collections and institutional assets.
- Capacity Building: Training researchers in collection management and specimen digitisation techniques, while engaging citizen scientists to expand and document natural history collections.
Objectives of the Event
This event aims to provide updates on the DiSSCo Research Infrastructure and DiSSCo Belgium, highlighting the perspectives of digitised collections managers and users, and showcase ways to both contribute to and benefit from this infrastructure.
