10th Summer School - An Interdisciplinary Perspective on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services
Course description: Approaching the subject from the perspective of the philosophical foundations of scientific inquiry, this course offers critical examinations of the principles required to judge the scientific merits of systematic/taxonomic procedures.

Target Audience: MSc students, PhD students, early career researchers, professional systematists/taxonomists and anyone who is interested in the philosophy of Biological Systematics
Basics of Taxonomy: describing, illustrating and communicating biodiversity
This course will take place form 5 to16 October 2015 at the Sven Lovén Centre for Marine Sciences, Kristineberg, Sweden
Taught by renowned experts in their field, the course topics are:
- Digital drawing
- Scientific illustration
- Scientific writing and communication
- Scratchpads, a tool to build, publish and share information on the web
Course organiser: Distributed European School of Taxonomy (DEST)
The German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv), an international hub for biodiversity science, will organize its first summer school Biodiversity Synthesis from 23 to 29 August 2015 in Leipzig, Germany.
The summer school gives 20 young scientists the opportunity to interact with the various biodiversity research groups at iDiv. Mirroring our range of expertise, we will focus on a different scale every day, starting from molecular level and finishing to ecosystems.
Since 2013, The Belgian Science Policy Office (BELSPO), or more accurately its Federal North Sea Research Programme, organises an annual Scientific diving course. The course is developped and managed by representatives of the different universities and scientific institutions concerned by scientific diving activities as well as the managers of the Belgian research vessels "Belgica" and "Simon Stevin".
