JOB OPPORTUNITY: Outreach and Impact Leader @ University College London
University College London is seeking to recruit an energetic and self-motivated person with a background in science, science communication or science education.
This position is to support, develop and promote outreach and impact activities for the NERC funded research programme “Volatiles, Geodynamics and Deep Earth Controls on the Habitable Planet”, a £8M, five-year programme that supports some 44 research scientists, plus postdocs, research students and project partners at 13 UK universities and research institutions.
One of the primary tasks is to develop and secure long-term funding for a mobile science outreach facility to visit primary schools and provide educational resources to children in London. The Outreach and Impact Leader will also help promote and publicize the research and activities of the programme to a wider audience. This includes the general public, industry, and government. By working with scientists from the research programme, the successful candidate will help to identify and take forward opportunities where research has the potential to be of interest to the public and industry, or to influence policy makers.
Key Requirements: A PhD, or equivalent relevant experience, and a BA/BSc in a relevant branch of the physical sciences (preferably Earth Sciences) is essential. Applicants will have a background in science, science communication and/or science education and experience in fundraising. Experience in working between industry and academia, and in managing large projects is desirable.
