G7 leaders issue commitment on Wildlife Traffic

Thursday, 11 June, 2015

This 10th of June 2015, Leaders of the G7, who got together in Germany for a two-day annual summit issued a declaration reaffirming their commitment to fight illegal wildlife traffic.

"We are committed to combating wildlife trafficking, which is pushing some of the world’s species to the brink of extinction and in some instances is being used to finance organized crime, insurgencies, and terrorism.”

This renewed commitment to fight wildlife traffic is placed under the larger banner of "Fighting Terrorism and its Financing". The goal is to implement an international framework for the freezing of terrorists’ assets. “Following the money”, as it has been dubbed, is believed to be one of the most effective ways to hit the wildlife trafficking gangs by cutting off their financial sources.
