Late on Friday (29/06) afternoon CETAF received the great news that ESFRI has formally accepted the DiSSCo initiative on its 2018 roadmap update, making European Natural Science Collection a recognised priority research infrastructure, supporting scientific excellence and innovation towards urgent societal challenges.

On the 7th of June, the European Commission published its first proposal for the 9th Research and innovation Framework (FP9) which will follow Horizon 2020 and will cover the years 2021 - 2027. The Commission proposes a total budget of 100 billion Euros for the "Horizon Europe" programme on research and innovation.

On 25-26 April 2018, CETAF held its 43rd binannual General Meeting at the Natural History Museum in London. Welcoming statements were held by Ian Owens, the museum's Director of Science, along with Michelle Price, who chaired the two-day meeting. Prior to the actual meeting, participants were given a tour of the scientific facilities of the museum, with a special attention to the imaging facilities, research labs and archival resources.

In the wake of the CETAF43 General Meeting at the Natural History Museum, London, a special workshop will be dedicated to the issue of “Implementation of Access and Benefit-Sharing (ABS) Legislation” on Friday 27th April 2018.

The upcoming 43rd CETAF General Meeting will take place on 25-26 April 2018 at the Natural History Museum, London. NHM Director of Science Ian Owens and CETAF Chair Michelle Price are inviting CETAF Directors and representatives, and other invited guests, to join the meeting.

CETAF was present at the highly anticipated ICEDIG Opening Conference which was hosted by the Finnish Natural History Museum in Helsinki on March 6th, 2018. The conference marked the start of stakeholder engagement efforts of the Horizon 2020 project ICEDIG – Innovation and consolidation of for large scale digitisation of natural heritage, in which CETAF is Work Package Leader for all communication and dissemination matters.

In a joint effort as part of the ICEDIG Consortium, CETAF will be co-organising the ICEDIG Opening Conference, titled “Transforming natural sciences collections for the digital age”. The meeting will be hosted by the Finnish Museum of Natural History Luomus in Helsinki, Finland on March 6th, 2018.
