Event review: Horizon 2020 Societal Challenge 5 Info Day

Thursday, 15 September, 2016

The General Secretariat attended the Horizon 2020 Societal Challenge 5 Info Day on 14 September 2016, organised by the European Commission.

During the opening panel the policy framework of the societal challenge 5 “Climate Action, Environment, Resource Efficiency and Raw Materials” was discussed by Renzo Tomellini (DG Research and Innovation).

That was followed by two presentations detailing best practices from previous proposals as wel las new focus areas within the new 2017 work programme, i.e. cross cutting issues such as innovation, social science and humanities, gender and ethics. Especially the latter two will be a big part of H2020 proposals going forward and proposal writers should integrate an analysis of gender implications and potential ethical issues in their texts.

The call topics for the societal challenge 5 under the new work program for 2017 can be found here. Among others, they will cover:

  • The circular economy,
  • Nature-based solutions,
  • Cultural heritage for sustainable growth,
  • And climate services & decarbonisation.

The presentations and video recordings of the info day will be made available here.
