EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT: ICEDIG OPENING CONFERENCE – TRANSFORMING NATURAL SCIENCES COLLECTIONS FOR THE DIGITAL AGE
In a joint effort as part of the ICEDIG Consortium, CETAF will be co-organising the ICEDIG Opening Conference, titled “Transforming natural sciences collections for the digital age”. The meeting will be hosted by the Finnish Museum of Natural History Luomus in Helsinki, Finland on March 6th, 2018.
With the mission to drive ‘Innovation and consolidation for large scale digitisation of natural heritage’, this Horizon 2020 project is inviting stakeholders and representatives from potential industrial partners, national and European political bodies, the research community and society, to discuss the features of the project in relation to prospects for mass digitisation of natural sciences collections.
Given the support that ICEDIG will provide the new pan-European Research Infrastructure initiative, named DiSSCo, complex challenges that are still at play to digitise these collections can be addressed by the design study carried out by ICEDIG. In this way, natural sciences collections can be placed within the same framework for data-driven scientific excellence and innovation in environmental research to help solve pressing scientific and societal challenges.
The conference will introduce the ICEDIG work programme by elaborating on the various technical, financial, policy and governance aspects it envisions for the new Research Infrastructure. This will enable stakeholders to familiarise themselves with the mission and vision of ICEDIG, as to also engage them in a concerted and long-lasting effort to develop innovative solutions.
