More specifically, it aims to show how taxonomy integrates the technical advances of molecular biology while recalling the importance of natural history collections in these practices. The specific objectives are to provide (i) a conceptual and methodological framework for species description practices; (ii) tools to integrate data from molecular biology techniques into these practices and (iii) an overview of the use of databases that link specimens deposited in natural history collections with biological data (especially molecular ones) and biological nomenclature. The module is designed both for biologists who are wondering about the place of taxonomy in modern biology and at taxonomists who wish to make the most of the technical advances of biology in their practice.
