Course duration is lasting from 5-10 working dates at a pre-defined date (in special cases the dates can be defined by mutual agreement between the expert and the trainee).<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.18.0″ custom_padding=”||0px|||” hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″]<\/p>\n 2.\u00a0<\/strong>Expert-in-training programme<\/strong> The main objective of the Expert-in-training programme is to give the opportunity to students (undergraduate, graduate, MSc & PhD) and professionals, involved in the field of taxonomy, biodiversity, geodiversity and conservation, to acquire and strengthen research skills and capacities on the above scientific fields.<\/p>\n The trainee will join a project team for a period between one or more weeks and will be coached by the expert(s) who will instruct him\/her on \u2018how to do the job\u2019 in the lab and\/or in outdoor activities, in the field. The training is sometimes blended supported also by theoretical lectures. Training is provided in small groups of 5-20 students at a pre-defined date.<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.18.0″ hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″]<\/p>\n 3.\u00a0Collection management programme<\/strong><\/p>\n This training programme provides theoretical knowledge and IT skills and capacities mainly on natural history collections\u2019 management from the data gathering and quality to large scale digitisation and archiving until the long term preservation and data publication.<\/p>\n Training is addressed to students (undergraduate, graduate, MSc & PhD) and professionals involved in the field of taxonomy, biodiversity, geodiversity and conservation and is provided in small groups of 5-20 students at a pre-defined date.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16″ text_line_height=”1.8em” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n Background<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n DEST was established within the framework of the EU-funded project “European Distributed Institute of Taxonomy (EDIT)” (2006-2011). It currently sits under the umbrella of the\u00a0Consortium of European Taxonomic Facilities (CETAF)<\/a>. The DEST consortium is open to new members to share their experience and to devote their expertise to improve the knowledge base and to foster the direct involvement of the CETAF scientific community in providing the highest-level quality of training and to reach out the broadest audience possible.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n The current DEST consortium is composed of the following <\/td> Catherina Voreadou\u00a0<\/strong>has a PhD in Hydrobiology and is Head of Education at the Natural History Museum of Crete - University of Crete. She is responsible for the development of the face-to-face and e-learning courses of the Centre for Environmental Training of the Natural History Museum of Crete.\u00a0 <\/td><\/tr> ![\"\"](\"https:\/\/cetaf.org\/dest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/casino_ana_cetaf_brussels.jpg\")
<\/td> Ana Casino<\/strong>\u00a0is the Executive Director of the Consortium of European Taxonomic Facilities. In this function, she is dedicated to fostering taxonomic research and with her experience in European research projects <\/td><\/tr> ![\"\"](\"https:\/\/cetaf.org\/dest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Gergely-Babocsay.png\")
<\/td>Gergely Babocsay\u00a0<\/strong>has a\u00a0PhD in Biology and is the curator of the Collection of Vertebrates of the M\u00e1tra Museum of the Hungarian Natural History Museum.
