NMHN Paris has a new director

Bruno David New Director ParisBruno David, new director of NMNH Paris

It’s official since the beginning of September, Bruno David became the new Director of NMNH Paris, the french National Museum of natural History. Mr David’s scientific background has seen him work first as a palaeontologist, where he eventually became Director of Research. But he then reconverted as a marine biologist, particularly devoted to echinoderms and sea urchins and to the survival of sea fauna. He took part to several great sea expeditions, most notably around Antarctica, but also in Brazil, the Caribbean’s and the Pacific. He has written and collaborated to 180 published scientific papers, travels the world as a guest speaker in many scientific events, but is also very keen on reaching the general audience.

Mr. David takes the reign of NMNH Paris at a pivotal moment in its history when the entirety of its sites are reopening to the public. « I’m proud to access the presidency of such a prestigious institution, which’s role is to fascinate and amaze to instruct. We are facing a major environmental break-down. Awaking curiosity, foster a culture of nature aided by scientific knowledge, subscribe to an approach of natural sciences with Man, such is my engagement at the head of this institution.
