CETAF JOINS ENVRIplus AND BEERi
CETAF has become an associated partner to ENVRIplus, the cluster of European environmental and earth system research infrastructures, and a board member of its advisory panel, the Board of European Environmental Research Infrastructures (BEERi). With this move, CETAF and its members are being recognized as key partners of the environmental research infrastructures and will be able to raise further awareness to the fact that the data provided by CETAF members is a key building block for other environmental research infrastructures and beyond.
CETAF will thus continue to play a crucial role in the creation of a more coherent, interdisciplinary and interoperable cluster of environmental research infrastructures in Europe. Being the largest community of collection-based institutions in the natural sciences domain, CETAF will enhance the existing landscape of environmental research infrastructures with a crucial set of reference data that underpins the research developed under other complementary approaches from research infrastructures working at the observational, experimental, or modelling level.
ENVRIplus is a Horizon 2020 project bringing together environmental and earth system research infrastructures, projects and networks. Those infrastructures provide key tools and instruments for researchers to address specific challenges like climate change, loss of biodiversity, etc. within their own scientific fields. To tackle them, scientific collaboration across the traditional fields is necessary and is driven by three goals:
1) favouring cross-fertilization between Research Infrastructures,
2) implementing innovative concepts and devices across Infrastructures,
3) facilitating research and innovation in the field of environment to an increasing number of users outside the Research Infrastructures.
BEERi is the advisory panel of ENVRIplus, consisting of directors and coordinators of the infrastructures and projects and representing their needs. They assist ENVRIplus in giving guidance to the project coordination and advice on the strategic development of the project.
CETAF collaboration with ENVRIplus will add another layer of tools, reference data and expertise to the multidisciplinary earth system science across scientific fields. The cooperation within ENVRIplus will avoid the duplication of efforts, making research more effective and results easier to share.
With regards to the DiSSCo initiative, CETAF’s involvement in ENVRIplus will help map out the landscape of environmental research infrastructures, ensuring collaboration for years to come.
